In past years, it was Birmingham and everybody else. The Stallions were dominant all year and cruised through a perfect season to win the league championship. Any loss they took was shocking because they were so much better than every other team in the league. But this year is different as they're not a dominant force as before allowing other teams a realistic chance of surpassing them on the quest to a championship. For the first time, spring football has parity.
THE GAMES
DC Defenders 24
San Antonio Brahmas 10
DC had a bad day at the office as they couldn't defend anything against the Panthers. And it's not like Jordan Ta'amu played bad; they were simply outmatched. Despite that setback, they're still among the favorites to make the playoffs. Ta'amu is a big reason for that as he leads the league in passing yards. As for San Antonio, thanks for coming but your season is over.
Michigan Panthers 15
Arlington Renegades 13
After going with a two QB system for most of the year, the Panthers stuck with Bryce Perkins who went 13 for 18 for 188 yards and scored 3 total TDs. Like DC, they're also 4-2 atop their division and it wouldn't surprise me if they made it to the USFL championship game. Arlington is on the outside looking in at 3-3 but they can still jump over DC and or St. Louis if they slip up while the Renegades earn wins late. Of course, the offense has to play much better than last week. The defense kept the scoring low while the offensive made too many mistakes.
Houston Gamblers 25
Birmingham Stallions 27
After losing to the Showboats of all teams, they took care of business against the Brahmas. I know I sound like doom and gloom when talking about Birmingham this season, but they're tied with Michigan as USFL division leaders. Houston was dead in the water at first, but they climbed themselves up to .500. The Stallions are not the world beaters of yesteryear so Houston can easily steal a win and leapfrog them. I'm not saying they WILL, but it COULD happen.
St. Louis Battlehawks 36
Memphis Showboats 17
The final 4-2 team is St. Louis. They struggled to put away Arlington as they share the XFL division lead with DC. I still feel this team was better off with AJ McCarron but whatever. Then again, with that porous offensive line, he would be a sitting duck getting demolished every other play. Speaking of demolished, that's NOT what happened to Memphis against Houston. They kept the game close but their luck ran out I guess as their season pretty much ended there.
LAST WEEK: 3-1
OVERALL: 14-10
