Last week, I mentioned that I wanted to talk shit about the XFL's bare bones website but decided to hold off till today. I was gonna go on a rant about how they don't have a stats page while other leagues like the USFL, CFL, IFL, ELF, and more have it. I was gonna mock them for creating a website without a stats page while it's a basic feature on sites that use SIDEARM Sports for their team's website. Then to my surprise, they added a stats page this week.
It seems to have happened around February 25th because they had the dropdown menu by Saturday morning. It's decent but you can't sort the different categories like you can with the NFL. You can't sort it by highest completion percentage or most INTs or shortest punt in the season with the XFL. But at least it's available now and they finally added headshots for most players on each team. It's your typical chest high headshot but it's odd St. Louis zoomed in on their heads. It's also odd that they don't have a game day tab like they don't have a home.
Other oddities include Arlington not having headers on their roster page. Orlando DB Justin Rogers' whole upper body is shown in the circle. The Battlehawks no longer have the most players without a photo. It's now the Guardians and Defenders both with 8. Speaking of no photo, neither Las Vegas QB Brett Hundley nor D.C. QB Jordan Ta'amu have one. Oh, and none of the players have profiles. Maybe their webmaster sees this too and make more changes.
THE GAMES
Seattle Sea Dragons 26
Vegas Vipers 28
The Rock should've ponied up the money to buy Sam Boyd Stadium from UNLV because Cashman Field doesn't look great with a football field. Like, Fenway Park had a better field than this! Which is weird as hell because it was turned into a soccer specific stadium in 2019 but it still looks like they slapped a football field on a baseball diamond. All that rain (in Las Vegas of all places) exposed the old baseball field outline and turned the field to crap. And you wonder why NFL owners rather have fake grass than real grass. Fake grass don't deteriorate into mush to the point that after a game it looks like it's in midseason form. It doesn't have patches or spots that looks like it was painted green with spray paint or leave behind tire tracks. Also the hard camera fogged up so much ESPN had to switch to another camera for the rest of the game.
St. Louis Battlehawks 16
D.C. Defenders 13
Jordan Ta'amu did not do much against the Vipers. He was 11/23 for 93 yards passing and 12 rushes for 68 yards. He also fumbled twice (Their RB Abram Smith lost the ball too). So for the 2nd half they had their backup QB (and 2020-21 FBS Playoffs star) D'Eriq King run the ball 4 times for 32 yards and a TD. Switching to a run heavy gameplan provided a much-needed spark to get them past the Vipers. St. Louis struggled as well and needed 3 fumbles by the Sea Dragons to eke out a last-minute field goal for the win. If D'Eriq was starting, I would consider picking D.C. to win. Instead, I choose Jordon to lose this matchup against his old team.
Orlando Guardians 10
Arlington Renegades 27
It was going so well for Orlando at first, then it went all downhill from there. Paxton Lynch finished his day going 9/19 for 79 yards and a TD. I'm surprised they even put him back out there after benching him in his first XFL game. Probably because his backup Deondre Francois was worse going 6/13 for 8 yards 1 TD and a INT. Like damn, Deondre had more yards rushing (14) on less attempts (4) than he had passing! You would think after what happened to the Niners in the NFC Championship Game, they would have 3 QBs on their roster like every other team in the XFL but NOPE! Maybe they should sign a free agent like Nate Stanley or Ryan Finley or Clayton Thorson or Josh Rosen or Luke Falk or Colin Kaepernick.
Turns out the Guardians DOES have a 3rd QB...I guess? Quinten Dormady was on the team week 1 but he was cut from the team and scrubbed from the website this week after allegations that he shared the playbook to an opposing team (Is that why they're 0-2?). They then reinstated him to the team hours later after gathering more information. It's not spring football without some sort of drama. If more comes out of this like him getting cut again, I'll wrap it up next week.
San Antonio Brahmas 21
Houston Roughnecks 24
Houston's game against Arlington was closer than it should've been due to William Likely fumbling the ball twice on punt returns along with a Deontay Burnett fumble all in the 1st half. The defense stepped up in the 2nd half to continue their 3 year winning streak. They can't afford to turn the ball over that much if they want to beat the Brahmas. I'm still gonna pick the Roughnecks to win even though I still feel The Rock's team will be a playoff contender. Hopefully I'll go 4-0 again this week since I will be fully relying on highlights to evaluate teams.
LAST WEEK 4-0
OVERALL 6-2
