2 straight weeks of going 4-0, WOO!!! I could push my luck and hold this preamble off for another week and talk more shit about the AFL. But there are 2 games on the schedule that are not sure bets so I'm getting this in before I go 0-4. Maybe next week I will muse over the idea of a Nascar split where the Cup drivers and teams form their own racing league while Nascar call up Xfinity, Trucks, ARCA and other drivers to fill out the field. It would be the only shot Hare "Rattlesnake" Abernathy from Tishomingo, Mississippi can race in the Daytona 500.
THE GAMES
Memphis Showboats 17
Arlington Renegades 12
Arlington had a solid chance of beating Michigan as they kept forcing them to kick field goals. But they choked away their late lead allowing Panthers' kicker Jake Bates to cap off his 5 for 5 performance with a 42 Yd game winner. Again, I can't put all the blame on Luis Perez since he did all he could do, the Renegades just couldn't close out the game. As for the Showboats, they might change out their QB since it's unlikely they're getting in the playoffs. Case Cookus has been battered this season with 16 sacks so why not give Troy Williams some reps.
St. Louis Battlehawks 32
Birmingham Stallions 35
We got ourselves a heavyweight fight as 2 of the best QBs in the league square off...in a afternoon game. The Stallions clinched a playoff berth with a win over the Showboats while the Battlehawks easily beat the Roughnecks last week. It wouldn't shock me if this was the UFL championship game considering how good these teams are. It would also be great to see the passionate St. Louis fanbase finally experience a playoff game after being denied twice for different reasons. I'm still picking BHAM to win but it will be more competitive than usual.
Michigan Panthers 22
D.C. Defenders 23
D.C. is still alive in the XFL division thanks to their win over the Brahmas. Right now they're 3-3 while S.A. is 4-2 so they need to keep winning to stay in the playoff race. As for Michigan, I'm surprised they're 4-2. They just don't come off as a good team when I watch the highlights. Or maybe they're in this position because the bottom 2 teams in the USFL division are trash.
San Antonio Brahmas 16
Houston Roughnecks 10
The same can be said about the Brahmas as their offense doesn't scare me at all. But this Wade Phillips defense got them in prime position for the XFL championship game if they can hold off the Defenders from overtaking them. As for the Roughnecks, I should really start calling them the Gamblers because that's who they really are. This isn't the same Roughnecks we knew and loved from the XFL. These are the Gamblers were they're only good at 1 thing at a time.
LAST WEEK: 4-0
OVERALL: 18-6
