College Football Business Is BOOMING! UFL Week 9 Preview

This week in college football news.

I COULD talk about Michigan trying out a 2-QB system in their win over Memphis. I could talk about Birmingham's concerning struggles against Houston. I could talk about St. Louis finally getting to experience a playoff game after ending D.C.'s playoff hopes. I could talk about San Antonio cutting short Arlington's win streak. I could talk about the NFL being inspired by the UFL and will use technology to spot the ball instead of a chain gang. I could even talk about their basic as hell trophy but I'm gonna talk about recent college football news instead.

With Smackdown leaving FOX to go back to USA Network in September, people wondered how will FOX fill that massive hole on Friday nights? They're replacing it with something that's guaranteed to get higher ratings...college football! FOX announced they're debuting FOX COLLEGE FOOTBALL FRIDAY on September 13th which will feature Big Ten and Big 12 matchups with the Mountain West championship game at the end of their season. I must say, that's the perfect replacement for a live programing that regularly drew about 2 million viewers on a weekly basis. TNT could use that resourcefulness in filling gaps after losing the NBA.

Another thing to get excited over is the return of a college football video game. EA Sports showed the trailer for College Football 25 and yeah, it looks promising but oftentimes the trailer looks far better than the actual game. Every FBS school and most of the real-life players will be in the game along with the Heisman Trophy but none of the coaches or positional trophies will join them. Dynasty and Road to Glory returns along with Team Builder going back online and Ultimate Team can now use current college players. You can't create players who are not in the game but at least you can add Kennesaw State into the expanded CFP a year early.

Speaking of the expanded CFP, it's now up to 12 teams so a 9-win SEC or Big 10 team can get in ahead of an undefeated MAC or Sun Belt team. ESPN will also license out a couple playoff games to TNT in a 5-year deal because God forbid they put some games on ABC. People say this is great and give smaller schools a chance at the national championship but you know that's a lie. The only fair FBS playoff is the FVB Sports FBS Playoffs where every FBS school is eligible as long as they have 10+ wins or won a conference championship. No polls, no bias, just strength of schedule and performance as the determining factors as it should be.

Finally, it looks like there's a settlement in the House v. NCAA class-action lawsuit where colleges will now be allowed to pay athletes directly which is about goddamn time. Former D1 athletes will also receive $2.75 billion in backpay to be paid in a 10-year period with the NCAA paying about 41 percent, the power conferences pay 24 percent, Group of 5 responsible for about 10 percent, FCS schools 13 percent, and non-football DI schools on the hook for 12 percent. I'm sure smaller schools won't be thrilled about being lumped into the settlement considering the payouts will hit them harder than the bigger schools. The settlement also means no more scholarship caps as they will be replaced with roster limits meaning no more walk-ons. I still feel the B1G and SEC should form their own superleague because fuck the NCAA.

LAST WEEK:   4-0
OVERALL:     24-8
