It's a good thing I pat myself on the back last week because this was one of the games I wasn't 100% sure of with my picks. The Renegades was winless but the Showboats suck so it was a toss up on who would win. I picked Memphis simply due to how bad Arlington's defense is. Well Arlington sure proved me wrong winning 47-23. It's nice to see Luis Perez have a happy ending for a change this season instead of falling into despair over his efforts meaning nothing.
THE GAMES
Memphis Showboats 12
Michigan Panthers 38
The Showboats gave QB Troy Williams some reps and he was...okay. He went 14-21 for 127 yards, an INT and 2 total TDs. Case Cookus eventually got in there to put up a similar stat line of 11-17 for 103 yards a TD and a INT. Things won't get any easier against the Panthers who also proved me wrong by showing they are very much a good team beating the Defenders 22-9. If they want to, they could rest their starters for this meaningless game since they're playoff bound.
Houston Gamblers 3
Birmingham Stallions 45
How the hell you force 4 turnovers and still lose? Have a trash ass offense where a QB with a busted wrist is preferable to play than the backup. These bums are no match for the Stallions who earned a solid win over their likely UFL Bowl opponent the Battlehawks. Sure, there were some hiccups but that's to be expected against another good team. They won't happen here.
D.C. Defenders 16
St. Louis Battlehawks 25
The loss puts St. Louis in a tie with San Antonio as the XFL division leader at 5-2. I still feel they will make the playoffs but D.C. is a different story. They must win here to stay alive in the playoff chase as well as their final 2 games. Lucky for them, A.J. McCarron injured his ankle so he might not play. Unlucky for them, Jordan Ta'amu has a concussion so he might not play either.
Arlington Renegades 23
San Antonio Brahmas 27
The Brahmas are so goddamn lucky Houston's offense is ass. They didn't do dick for much of the game turning the ball over left and right. But somehow Kevin Hogan provided a spark and they came back to win with a last second FG 15-12. It also helps that San Antonio has a great defense that kept shutting down the Roughnecks. In other words, Arlington aint winning this one.
LAST WEEK: 2-2
OVERALL: 20-8
