What I Miss? USFL Semifinals Preview

2023 USFL playoffs

I made no secret that I haven't been paying attention to these games since I was busy with other things. I'm finally caught up on work and man, the USFL North is trash! It's like they saw the XFL playoffs feature a team with a losing record and said, "Hold my beer". We have a team looking to repeat as champions in a rematch of last year's semifinal. We also have a semifinal involving 2 teams that are 4-6. Any Given Weekend is the theme of spring ball so let's get to the games.

THE GAMES

2023 USFL playoffs Michigan Panthers vs Pittsburgh Maulers
Michigan Panthers   21
Pittsburgh Maulers  10

The Philadelphia Stars finished 4-6 also but they missed out on the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. The Generals were ass too so the 2 worse teams of the league last season will square off in the North division final. Even though it's a low bar as they only won a combined 5 additional games, these teams improved after dumping their shitty/hardass coaches (Stallions coach Skip Holtz is the only coach in these playoffs to return from last season BTW). These teams are so similar, so I guess I pick Michigan to win. They seem to rely on defense more.

2023 USFL Playoffs New Orleans Breakers vs Birmingham Stallions
New Orleans Breakers  28
Birmingham Stallions   31

It's a rematch of last season's South division final. The Stallions lost to the Breakers in week 3 but edged out a win in week 7. Breakers QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson leads the league in yards with 2,433 while Stallions QB Alex McGough leads in TDs with 20. New Orleans also has the USFL's leading rusher Wes Hills as he has 679 yards this season. Despite the similar offenses and Nola having a better defense, I'll ride this pony in front of their home fans.

LAST WEEK:   2-2
OVERALL:     23-17
