It had to have felt good to win his first game as a NFL head coach after a week of the mainstream media shitting on him and the Colts. The usual suspects were OUTRAGED that he was named INTERIM coach of this directionless team that looked ready to tank the rest of the season. They kept bringing up that Black coaches were passed up in favor of this cis-gendered White male because obviously, Jim Irsay is a racist and promotes White privilege. Let's just ignore that this team looked primed to pack it in and if you really care about Black coaches getting opportunities, why would you want them to leave the team they're already on to go to a losing situation for half the season? Well Jeff says he's not tanking and at least for the first game, his players responded positively to him. Also the offensive line actually showed up.
If he can somehow get this team to finish .500, maybe we should talk more about players going straight to head coaching after ending their playing career. Back in 2014, people noticed that more and more former players were being considered for head coaching jobs in the NBA with no prior experience. So far, there are 13 former NBA players turned coaches and 3 of them (Jason Kidd, Steve Kerr and Doc Rivers) became head coaches with 0 experience. Compare that to the NFL where only 9 of them were ever on a NFL roster and 4 of them (Dan Campbell, Todd Bowles, Mike Vrabel and Ron Rivera) weren't practice squaders. Former players (understandably) don't want to waste a decade as a assistant before being considered for a head coaching gig. Especially those who put in 10, 15 years in their playing career.
Especially ESPECIALLY, after this wave of youngish head coaches taking over the NFL thanks to the successes of Sean McVay. This is a copycat league so when teams saw how well the Rams did with their offensive guru, every other team wanted a genius on their own. It just so happens that many of the guys who fit that bill of young guy who goes to coaching after graduating college are White. Imagine if Saturday is successful as a interim, that could open the door to more (Black) coaches getting jobs because teams want a locker room leader former player as their head coach. Just like other teams ran Wildcat after seeing the Dolphins have success with it. And how everybody wants a athletic QB like Patrick Mahomes. Maybe I'm being naïve but if you want a minority coach to break through the nepotism that comes with NFL head coaching, then maybe it'll take a White former player with no coaching experience but is beloved by the owner and fanbase to make hiring former players the new trend in the league.
THE GAMES
Tennessee Titans 10
Green Bay Packers 30
There can only be one A-Rod on the Packers. Fresh off getting a much needed win to stay alive in the playoff chase, they dumped WR Amari Rodgers after his 5th fumble with 4 of them on punt returns. In his 2 seasons in Green Bay, he only started 1 game and has 8 receptions for 95 yards along with a 11 yard run, 57 returns for 626 yards and 7 total fumbles losing 2 of them. So yeah, he was expendable. If no team picks him up, he got 2 spring leagues to choose from.
Chicago Bears 20
Atlanta Falcons 21
Fans may want Desmond Riddler to start but Falcons coach Arthur Smith will stick with Marcus Mariota. Fans always want to throw their rookie QB into games to get killed by a porous offensive line. It's like they never learn from the multiple young QBs who have their careers derailed with bad play/injury due to constantly running for their life and/or getting sacked.
Carolina Panthers 9
Baltimore Ravens 23
2 seasons ago, I predicted no one from the NFC East would get 8 wins. I thought about doing it again this year with the NFC South but the Bucs seems to be more competent as a team than the entire East division was in 2020. Tampa's main problem is they kept airing it out while ignoring their run game. Well they finally ran the damn ball so Tom Brady didn't have to throw 40, 50 times in Germany. So now they can enjoy their bye week as I ignore the Ravens pecking the Panthers. It gives Brady time to prepare for that lawsuit against him over that FTX crypto scam.
Cleveland Browns 27
Buffalo Bills 24
After news that the NFL may move this game due to a snowstorm, the Bills will probably add a roof to that new stadium they're building. Also Deshaun Watson returned to practice.
Washington Hitmen 20
Houston Texans 24
Meanwhile on the Texans, they stripped WR Brandin Cooks of his captaincy because he's mad he didn't get traded and Lovie Smith won't bench Davis Mills. This team is trash everywhere, so I'm sure Brandin isn't the only Texan who wished he got traded, he was just public about it. As for Davis, this season is a lost cause so there's no reason to make a change now. Look at this roster and tell me who could do a better job at QB than Davis? Kyle Allen sure as hell isn't gonna turn the season around and neither is Jeff Driskel. The XFL season can't come soon enough for Houston fans. And I guess Amari Rodgers thought the Roughnecks called him from the XFL Draft cause here he is on the Texans roster. Talk about a downgrade, yeesh.
Philadelphia Eagles 27
Indianapolis Colts 6
Not only did the Eagles get upset by the Commies, Taylor Heinicke gloated about drawing the unnecessary roughness penalty to milk more time off the clock. DE Brandon Graham didn't like the call but former Canton Legends player Nick Sirianni noted it was the 3 turnovers and other errors that cost them the game. It's another example of how much harder it is to play defense.
New York Jets 9
New England Patriots 17
Strong defense, bad offense. That's the story for both teams so expect a low scoring affair.
Los Angeles Rams 0
New Orleans Saints 28
The Saints can still win the South so Dennis Allen is sticking with the Red Ryder. Apparently Jameis Winston has back issues that's likely to keep him off the field for the rest of the season. I was wondering why he wasn't playing since he's a more dynamic player than Andy. As for the Rams, they might get Matthew Stafford back but will be without Cooper Kupp. Maybe they should run the ball more so Stafford won't add 25 more sacks to the 28 he has now.
Detroit Lions 24
New York Giants 37
But then again, the Giants are 7-2 and 4th in rushing and Daniel Jones still got his jersey dirty 28 times. Imagine how much bigger of a threat the G-Men would be if they kept their QB upright!
Las Vegas Raiders 19
Denver Broncos 34
This was a playoff team last season that added Davante Addams! Yet here they are, 2-7, out of the playoff race and their QB fighting back tears after losing to someone who only coached high school football. At least Raiders owner Mark Davis feels Josh McDaniels is "doing a fantastic job". Broncos fans know all about him so him failing (again) comes off as no surprise. They really should've kept Rich Bisaccia but he's the special teams coordinator for the Packers now.
Dallas Cowboys 23
Minnesota Vikings 27
That one handed catch late in that thrilling win over the Bills got Justin Jefferson's gear in the HOF. I'll say it also put him in the front running for the cover of next year's Madden. He's already featured in the trailer of the underwhelming Madden 23 so getting on the cover after a spectacular catch like OBJ wouldn't shock anyone. Maybe EA will finally work on the hit boxes so players wouldn't be able to go through each other on catches anymore.
Cincinnati Bengals 42
Pittsburgh Steelers 6
I'm calling it. Mike Tomlin will have his first losing season and finish 8-9. He had a nice run.
Kansas City Chiefs 38
Los Angeles Chargers 31
2 straight SNF Charger games huh? Hopefully Justin Herbert doesn't take another headshot.
San Francisco 49ers 27
Arizona Cardinals 40
