I could talk about Birmingham's continued offensive struggles as they edged out the Renegades. I COULD talk about Houston getting their 1st win in the battle of winless teams. I could talk about Michigan surviving the Brahmas. I could talk about DC being the last undefeated team standing after beating the Battlehawks. But there were some notable sports news in the past week that I rather talk about on this Good Friday heading into Easter weekend.
THE GAMES
Memphis Showboats 10
Michigan Panthers 21
The top headline was QB Nico Iamaleava holding up the Tennessee Volunteers for more money until they told him to fuck off. The talking heads said he wouldn't have many suitors in the transfer portal but he ended up at UCLA. I talked before about how if schools just paid players directly, then you wouldn't have this problem where players suddenly threaten to not play during the season because they'd have contracts to go by. Hell, in a perfect world the Power 4 schools would leave the NCAA to form their own league where they set their own rules and regulations, the players are part of a union, NIL is simply endorsement money and the remaining FBS schools merge with the FCS to unify Division 1 football. It's crazy how the higher ups throw their hands in the air like they don't know how to fix this mess they created by not paying players after years of making billions of dollars off them. Like goddamn, it's not that hard to come up with a fair agreement between players and schools without government intervention.
St. Louis Battlehawks 17
Arlington Renegades 15
While not a sport, WrestleMania is here! Various WWE personalities are making the media rounds from an outdated ass episode of Cold as Balls to Complex to ESPN to GQ Sports to Hot Ones Versus to Jimmy Fallon to Nightcap to Pat McAfee to Rich Eisen. Out of all the matches on the 2-night show, I'm most interested in Cody Rhodes vs John Cena. It probably won't happen but I really want Cena to win his 17th world title just to piss off the marks. My Idea finish is Travis Scott gets on the apron, Cody brings him in and Cross Rhodes him, Cena kicks Cody in the dick as the referee pushes Travis out the ring, Attitude Adjustment, 1-2-3 pinfall, new champion.
Birmingham Stallions 14
Houston Gamblers 12
Speaking of Pat McAfee, Aaron Rodgers spoke yesterday about how he's still undecided about whether he will play or not. He also mentioned that he has to deal with some personal stuff first before making his decision. Personally, I feel if he has some heavy shit to address, he should just retire so he can deal with it full time but that's just me. BTW, the fact that the Steelers are still waiting on his decision tells me they're desperate for a QB even though they just should've kept Justin Fields. Either way, it's too bad he's not completing the Brett Favre career arc.
San Antonio Brahmas 9
DC Defenders 25
After San Antonio went 0-3, Wade Phillips is stepping away for personal reasons as Offensive Coordinator Payton Pardee takes over as interim head coach. He's the 3rd head coach to leave his team after both Defenders coach Reggie Barlow and Showboats coach Ken Whisenhunt departed before the season started. Is this a nothing burger or do they see the writing on the wall that the UFL won't last much longer? Who really knows considering the future of this league depends on if FOX is willing to continue losing money on this spring football project. It doesn't help that there still is a lingering labor dispute that everyone apparently forgot about.
LAST WEEK: 2-2
OVERALL: 8-4
