In week 1, Aaron Rodgers tore his Achillies on his 4th snap of the season on Monday Night Football. The following week, Nick Chubb suffers a brutal knee injury on a tackle where it bent in the wrong direction. If you add on Damar Hamlin's medical scare in week 17 last season, players just can't catch a break on Monday Night Football! And it's likely to get worse since MNF games can be flexed now. I'll say Chubb was the Browns best player so they will feel his absence A LOT. Especially if Deshaun Watson can't get his shit together, on the field of course.
And no, Steelers S Minkah Fitzpatrick is not a dirty player. The NFL don't want players getting hit high because they're tired of people getting mad at them over concussions and CTE. When you have a powerful RB like Chubb coming towards you, you're likely to get stiff armed, trucked or bounce off him if you try to wrap up. So the best way to tackle him is to chop him down. Unfortunately, Minkah got him at the knee as Chubb's foot was planted on the GRASS field.
THE GAMES
New York Giants 17
San Francisco 49ers 16
Why should teams spend big money on RBs when they can't stay healthy again? Giants RB Saquon Barkley will miss this game do to a ankle injury. They made a big stink about not being appreciated and how they deserve big contracts but I'm like, why would I offer a RB a big contract when he has a injury history or had a drop in production? Especially since teams would rather air it out than pound the rock. Maybe if QBs get their own salary cap system in the next CBA, it would free up more money for RBs and other positions. The players should've fought for guaranteed contracts and a extra bye week in the last CBA instead of less practice time.
Indianapolis Colts 20
Baltimore Ravens 17
Speaking of RBs, has Jonathan Taylor tried faking injuries to gain leverage against the Colts? Rookie Evan Hull tore his meniscus so I doubt he's faking it but who else IS faking it in the NFL? Probably not rookie QB Anthony Richardson who is still in concussion protocol.
Tennessee Titans 16
Cleveland Browns 24
So with Chubb out for the year, the Browns resigned Kareem Hunt to a 1-year deal worth up to $4 million to help out Jerome Ford (and Pierre Strong) in the running game. Deshaun Watson struggled throwing a pick-6 on the first play, losing 2 fumbles and getting called twice for facemasking. So they need their running backs to take some pressure off of Watson. Never mind that they're paying him $230 million to be a star QB. I wonder how's Baker Mayfield doing?
Atlanta Falcons 28
Detroit Lions 16
C.J. Gardner-Johnson tore his pectoral muscle so he's likely out for the season as well. Sad.
New Orleans Saints 23
Green Bay Packers 10
WOW, the Packers are BAD! The season is young so they got time to improve their rankings.
Houston Texans 19
Jacksonville Jaguars 31
Expect the Jags to drop 31 on the Texans again.
Denver Broncos 13
Miami Dolphins 0
I hope this shutout doesn't mean Tua got injured again. He's been through enough already!
Los Angeles Chargers 34
Minnesota Vikings 27
Disgruntled Super Bowl winning RB Cam Akers got traded from the Rams to the Vikings. The Vikes are dead last in rushing so they should see a improvement to their running game. They will still lose though despite the fact the Chargers has the worse defense in the league.
New England Patriots 28
New York Jets 26
Will the Aaron Rodgersless Jets finally break their 14-game losing streak to the Patriots? No.
Buffalo Bills 24
Washington Commanders 17
Bills LB Christian Kirksey announced his retirement at 31 years old after a 9-year career with the Browns, Packers and Texans before joining Buffalo's practice squad. I'll say he's best known for a classic EA Sports fuckup. In Madden NFL 15 during MUT's Pre-season Rookie All-Stars weekly challenge, he's on the Titans instead of the Browns as a 1 ft 2 in player instead of 6'2" (What a trailblazer). He got a laugh out of it, Conan O'Brien did a bit over it and EA later made a trailer for the Tiny Titan challenge where you can play as or against Kirksey. Christian may not be a HOF but he will always be remembered in video game and pop culture lore.
Carolina Panthers 23
Seattle Seahawks 20
It was hilarious hearing that the Panthers sub in Andy Dalton to do QB sneaks and other short yardage plays because Bryce Young is too small at 5'10" 204 pounds. Head coach Frank Reich tried to justify it by stating he did it in the past and had the nerve to compare Dalton to Saints utility man Taysom Hill (I'm honestly surprised Dalton has 1,465 rushing yards). So with Bryce likely out this game with a ankle injury, they're free to do as many read-options as they want.
Dallas Cowboys 29
Utah Buckeyes 14
So much for that Cowboys-Dolphins Super Bowl. Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs tore his ACL during practice and will miss the rest of the season. Give Micah Parsons all the rest he needs!
Chicago Bears 7
Kansas City Chiefs 30
What the fuck is going on in Chicago? And I'm not talking about the usual high crime rate, corrupt politicians and government owned grocery stores. People are clowning Justin Fields for not being able to read the defense in his 3rd season and missing open receivers. So naturally when talking about his "robotic" play, he blamed his coaches. He later tried to clarify his comments but the damage has already been done. Being sacked 10 times doesn't help either.
BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! Their DC Alan Williams, who resigned from the team to take care of his "health and family", had his house raided by the FBI! Apparently, they found "extremely sensitive content” that would end his coaching career. There's reports that coach Matt Eberflus cried when he heard that their team facility was raided as well by former Bear and current FBI agent(!!!) Charles "Peanut" Tillman (He joined them in 2018 and later that year was part of a raid on Lil Reese's house taking $100K). With all this drama in the Windy City, the simulation should've doubled the amount the Chiefs would win by.
Pittsburgh Steelers 22
Las Vegas Raiders 27
The Steelers won last week but fans still want their OC Matt Canada to be fired. I haven't watched enough Steelers games so I can't say for sure that he's screwing up Kenny Pickett's progression. Now, if it's true they're holding back WR George Pickens so they won't have to pay him a big money contract, then he gots to go. Or Mike Tomlin, or whoever made that decision.
Philadelphia Eagles 27
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20
We got another MNF doubleheader but with the ABC game on first and the ESPN broadcast airing a hour later. Hopefully this won't be the 3rd straight week someone gets a serious injury.
Los Angeles Rams 20
Cincinnati Bengals 17
Speaking of injuries, pray for Joe Burrow's calf in this Super Bowl LVI rematch.
LAST WEEK 9-7
OVERALL 20-12
