I Didn't Watch A Single Game On Memorial Day Weekend. USFL Week 8 Preview

Compliation of Memorial Day racing weekend.

Since the only USFL game on TV was a expected blowout (more on this later) I tuned into the Memorial Day Tripleheader of the Monaco Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600. I'm probably wrong on this but I think this is the first time that all three races aired on regular TV. When IndyCar moved to NBC, ESPN went all in on Formula 1. So they tape delayed the morning race to air on ABC between the IRL race and Nascar's race on FOX. I didn't catch everything that happened in the three races but I did manage to see the highlights from the day.

Like Titus O'Neil and (Dale Jr) at the Indy 500 promoting the upcoming Hell In A Cell PPV.

While fellow wrestler/Marines veteran Lacey Evans started the Coke 600 in her ring gear. If the WWE had a MonΓ©gasque star they would've sent him or her to the Monaco GP as well.

A pit stop fuckup with the Ferrari cars.

Mick Schumacher broke his car in half hitting the barrier.

Sergio "Checo" Perez wins his 3rd career race.

Ezekiel Elliott was there struggling to think of a comparison between auto racing and football.

In the prerace, Jim Cornelison sung "Back Home Again in Indiana".

And they capped it off with "Taps" to honor our armed forces at home and abroad.

Former Nascar driver Jimmie Johnson's day ends with a late race wreck. It's too bad he didn't try to run The Double. It haven't been done since Kurt Busch did Double Duty at the Indianapolis and Charlotte races in 2014. His brother Kyle wanted to run in 2017 but his team owner Joe Gibbs wouldn't let him. Most owners would want to protect their investments as well.

Former F1 driver Marcus Ericsson became the second Swede to win the Indy 500.

Nascar stopped their race to have a moment of silence to honor the fallen troops.

One of Joey Logano's tire changers had his foot ran over by Denny Hamlin.

Chris Buescher took a tumble down the infield after the tire dug into the grass under the car.

Denny Hamlin finally wins his first Coke 600.

It was a good day of racing with packed crowds but let's get back on the topic of FOOTBAW!!!

THE GAMES

2022 USFL season week 8 Pittsburgh Maulers vs New Jersey Generals
Pittsburgh Maulers      10
New Jersey Generals   24

This week, the USFL relocates to the UAB Blazers old home of Legion Field due to a Garth Brooks concert at their current home of Protective Stadium. I would say that they should've played the whole season here but crowd shots would've looked worse due to its higher capacity of 71,594 compared to the new stadium's 47,100. I don't understand why "The Old Gray Lady" gets neglected when it can sit more people for events. Maybe it's because they JUST NOW decided to put some LED lights in the stadium. I always believe in repurposing a stadium instead of letting it sit empty or tearing it down after getting a couple years of use out of it. Especially when the city payed for the construction of the stadium and the team owner skipped town to build a new shiny stadium in the team's original home on the other side of the country.

Anyways, even after getting 3 interceptions, the Generals still nearly lost at the end against the Bandits. If they want to do anything worthwhile in the playoffs, they need De’Andre Johnson. As for the Maulers, can someone fire Kirby Wilson already? They held their own for much of the game against the Stallions and QB Vad Lee was doing fine with the run heavy offense. But Kirby replaced him late with Roland Rivers III, who just signed with them earlier that week. Why? Because Kirby didn't like Vad's "body language". Are you shitting me? If I was stuck playing for a dumbfuck hardass coach, I wouldn't be positive either because I know that with all the hard work we put in, the coach will negate all that with his shitty play calling and even worse decision making. At least Boogie Roberts got to attend graduation during his suspension.

2022 USFL season week 8 New Orleans Breakers vs Birmingham Stallions
New Orleans Breakers   28
Birmingham Stallions    35

I called them the 2020 Kansas City Chiefs back in week 6 with their tendency to start off games slow before getting their shit together and use their immense talent to comeback to win games. This game will be no different. They will be down at halftime then win by a touchdown.

2022 USFL season week 8 Michigan Panthers vs Philadelphia Stars
Michigan Panthers    17
Philadelphia Stars     21

I'm running so late on this preview, I sped through these highlights so I'll say Stars win.

2022 USFL season week 8 Houston Gamblers vs Tampa Bay Bandits
Houston Gamblers     31
Tampa Bay Bandits    37

Once again, the Gamblers defense keeps things close. Once again, the offense fucks it all up.

LAST WEEK   4-0
OVERALL      20-8
